I have been reading the best most comprehensive books on flute playing technique I have ever read. It is a three volume set called The Art of Playing the Flute by Roger Mather. I think this is an absolute must read for any teacher wanting to explain accurate techniques to students. This is not a method with tunes and scales but the most comprehensive manual on flute playing technique. A sort of bible on the mechanics of being able to play the flute beautifully.
Volume 1 is dedicated to Breathe Control. It is explained thoroughly and without the vagaries that plague so many methods. Instructions are excellent very clear only a little long winded. hahahaha
Volume 2 is devoted solely to Embouchure. This is my personal favourite of the volumes. Covering from basic embouchure to creating different types of tone colour.
Volume 3 discusses Posture, Fingers, Resonances, Tonguing, Vibrato.
All of the techniques throughout the books are so well explained any teacher or serious student will benefit from reading it.
Jennifer Cluff is selling this at her web site as an E book. I have it on my kindle and read snippets all the time. Its in PDF format but can easily be converted to EPUB or MOBI formats or just go total retro and print it on paper.
You got to grab yourself a copy and read more about it HERE
I'll be posting more fun stuff again soon.
best
Matt
